On Camera Lighting

I have a Smith Victor 950 camera mounted light with 100 watt limit.
It's not so great because the battery only lasts 30 mins or so depending on the bulb wattage, plus you have to carry a heavy battery which looks
like a bomb (I've been stopped at airports countless times)>:(

Anyways, I'm just wondering if there is a good camera light that has good wattage (at least 100 watts) and doesn't require a battery belt.

Any ideas???

Re: On Camera Lighting

Er... you're fighting the laws of electricity there.  100 watts is a LOT of power draw, and requires a big battery.

You can get tiny lights like the Sony 10w, 10 watts of light that run off a camera battery...

Other than that, you'll probably have to look at a non-tungsten unit.  Maybe the LED lights would be appropriate for your use, I doubt they'll match a 100w tungsten bulb for output, but the battery would be small.

Or an HMI like the Frezzi 24W, that'll put out about 100w of light but only draw 24 watts of power, so you could use a battery 1/4 the size and get an equivalent runtime.

Well... I suppose it's possible, but why? Do you know how much batteries weigh - especially ones that are going to power a light? Even if you figured out a way to mount it to the camera, you're arm would be worn out from the weight in no time. If the camera is tripod mounted then there might be a way to attach the battery to the tripod. What do you have against a belt?

Re: On Camera Lighting

Does anyone know if it's possible to get a battery plate adapter to fit our Panasonic batteries where Sonys are supposed to be. I'm referring to a Sony 10/20 w light http://www.evsonline.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=HVL20DW2 that was given to me. Instaed of having to buy a Sony charger and battery it would be nice to use one of my Panasonic batteries. I have seen that Lenmar makes adapter plates for their chargers so I figured that someone might have made an adapter plate that fits Sony products so that Panasonic batteries could be used.

Thanks for your time
