On camera LCD

After lugging an extension cord and a monitor for the last month. I've given in to the fact that I need to get a LCD to mount on my camera. I've posted in other forums but Im not getting the answers Im looking for. I've been looking at Delvcam, as a cheap solution, and then theres the steps up are varizoom, and Marshall. I also was told that I can build my own using a Lilliput 7" LCD, but i havent gotten a real answer on how to power the sucker. I need to know where to get the battery. And so on. Does anyone have a good solution to either finding a lilliput power supply via B&H, thats not Anton Bauer, Im allready broke. And or should I just go for one of the B&H Delvcam, or varizoom packages? Or Marshall, since i know that would be nice over all. Is a 4" marshall screen enough to get your focus, depth, and contrast and so on right, or is it to small with a 35mm lex.

Thanks.

I'm in no way an authority on this subject as I'm also looking for an affordable monitor. But I've been looking at the Ikan V8000w, it's not high def, but from the reviews it seems like a good buy, everyone claims it has a high enough resolution to focus an HD camera with a 35mm adapter. On B&H I think it's around $450

See Im using a dvx100A, Im wondering what I can get buy with on my camera. I need something that is going to be sharp enough so I can see how soft my picture is. And Im just real aprehensive about building one because im not the greatest when it comes to electrical business. And I dont want to fry out a 200 LCD, or anything else that matters. The Marshall V-LCD5.6PRO 5.6" is on B&h for 300, but it doesnt say if it does 16:9. And the resolutions not the greatest.

for an SD camera I'd seriously suggest at least taking a look at the Ikan 8" V8000w, it's 16:9 and has a high resolution for an SD monitor. It's more money than the Marshall 5.6" and a plastic case compared to a metal one, but I think in the long run it may be more bang for your buck as far as I've heard.

for sd monitoring abel cine clearance was selling the TC-7WMS1 NEB 70 LI 7'' panasonic nebtek upgrade (powers with a single panny battery) for around 650 but it is available from nebtek for 850$

If you want a really decent HD monitor check out lsdn.com

luis is on dvxuser (siniarch) and he is easy to reach and communicate with, I just ordered a monitor from him.

cheers

Hi there,

I'm seriously thinking of buying a Ikan 8" V8000w. Has anyone here actually used one? Were you happy with its performance? I'm not too worried about accurate colour rendition etc - what I really want an LCD monitor for is accurate focusing on my DVX100a (and hopefully soon I'll buy an HD camera too).

Thanks,
Jack

I once saw an LG portable DVD player that had the most amazing screen I've ever seen. It had AV inputs and can stretch the image for 16x9 or zoom for letterbox. Anyone know of an LG lcd display only? Otherwise I'll hack the portable dvd player and turn it into an on-camera lcd. It's only $150 new.

Well... I picked up a nice LG DP781 portable dvd player (only $70 shipped) and to my dissapointment, it doesn't look nearly as good on the video inputs as it does playing a dvd. It does however have a flip function for use with 35mm adpters, but the worst part is that it will only display 16:9 from the input. (unless that function is only on the remote, which I don't have) I need 4:3 letterbox. I'll either have to shoot in sqeeze mode (pain!) or really hack into it and harvest the screen. I think it would make a decent monitor for focusing (way better than the dvx lcd) for people on a budget. It's very light weight and the screen can rotate flat so I don't see any problems mounting it to the camera. I'll keep you updated.
