omni or cardiod lav?

Cardiod LAVs are MUCH more sensitive to handling and wind noise. If you have the time to tape the whole wire to the inside of their clothes (not every time, but often) and you have a good windscreen and a rycote fuzzy windjammer for outdoors, they can be nice. I have the Sennheiser MKE104 and it does a great job in echoy rooms or places with a lot of other noise. It is a pain to work with and should not be your only LAV. I use my Sennheiser MKE2 omni lav much more often..

Side note if you do go for the MKE104, make sure you get the copper right angle cable, not the straight steel cable. The steel cable amplifies the noise even more and makes the mic almost unusable.

I like having the cardiod option, but it is not a must have.
