omf from fcp to logic

hello. i just bought logic to edit my audio from fcp... and i just have to make sure i have understood everything right...

after i locked the picture in fcp i export an audio omf, and then import that to logic. i also make a low rez video sample to view in logic in sync with the audio.
then i export an aiff file from logic to import in fcp again.

THE QUESTIONS:
- is this the correct workflow? or is there any other suggestions concerning workflow?
- do i loose any quality in the audio doing roundtripping this way?
- should i save the omf files, and in that case why? after all i make a project file in logic.
- any other considerations or suggestions when working with logic and fcp? ( by the way; the newest versions of both)

thanks for input

Not sure Logic would be my first choice unless I was scoring but that's water under the bridge. That is the route that should work. There has been talk about a tighter link to FCP from Logic so there may at some point be a "send to logic" option but OMF works.

No you don't loose any quality in the round trip.

You don't Nec. need to do a "low res" version of the video. It depends on the video and your machine. If this all lives on the same machine you might try just doing a reference movie (not self contained) and see if that works for you. If it does you save some space and a lot of time.

I would save the OMF's if your thinking of sending this to a sound person at some point (doesn't sound like it). Or until your loaded and backed up in Logic. Otherwise not much need.

Depending on what your doing STP may be better suited than Logic. Or use both. The send to STP keeps the two closely connected so you can do things like conform easier. And you can go out of STP as a AAF (new replacement for OMF) why FCP and STP don't support the same export formats !!??!! who knows but I think Logic should import either. I don't know Logic that well so there might not be much advantage to using (and having to learn) two different apps, but STP does have some very nice tools in it that may not be in Logic. Also if your doing any work before picture is REALLY locked then I would do that in STP because of the conform functions then export to Logic when you are locked.

thank you very much for that. the way i work, i think a referenced movie is going to work too.:) my plan is to use stp first for repairing clicks and pops, hum and noise and so on. i am thinking just to use logic for the final adjustments and music.
anyway, thanks for clarifying and sharing the information.
