As the title says, I'm looking to modify my Olympus OM mount Zuiko 28mm f2.8 to have smooth aperture control, instead of the clicky style it currently uses.
I've heard about this mod being done, and I've watched a few videos of similar lenses having this modification performed on it (particularly here) but nothing specifically detailing this lens itself. The main problem I foresee is with the aperture ring being on the end of the lens instead of at the bottom, potentially meaning completely stripping the lens down in order to access the spring loaded ball bearing that controls the stops. Also, in the video, he uses a viscous liquid to control the friction on the ring (to reduce any slip that might occur) - does anyone with experience of this modification know of any other liquids that would work well for this purpose, or if I could get away with not putting smudgy black paste near the inside lens elements!
I'm certain I want to carry out this mod, but obviously I have a certain amount of trepidation when it comes to opening any lens (even a relatively cheap one like my little Zuiko...)
Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if this thread proves fruitful I might update this post with a small guide with a couple of pictures to help anyone who might want to do this mod too!
