older oktava mic

MK 012 about 7 years old, states that it's cardoid. (Not hyper cardoid).

Rarely used.

Is this a good fit for the DVX 100A? (starter mic)

Can this be taken off camera and set on table for voice overs?

$125 a good price, or are the new ones worth the extra money?

Thanks again!

Why?

The older mic should be fine, and on average better than the new ones. I say "on average" because since 2001 or so, the market has been glutted with both Russian factory rejects and Chinese knock-offs. A mic in general won't get worse over that amount of time, especially with limited use.

Design-wise, the new mics SHOULD be the same, with the exception that the Oktava plant is a bit fast-and-loose in replacing spec components with "what's on hand" - which makes every mic a bit of a crap shoot - but if you buy from a good dealer like the Sound Room, they'll have weeded out the best ones.

Instead of a new Mic, why not get an extra cap or two? Get a hyper and an omni and go crazy!
