Hey. So I just bought a cheapo JVC camera at Walmart to use as a dv deck with my DVX footage. I already have a cheap panasonic miniDV camcorder, but was under the impression that I would want to have a deck that has ONLY seen the type of tape that I will be using in my DVX. Now that I just bought this camera I started thinking... wait... will it be fine just to use my old camera? It has about 200 hours of head use as a rough (rough like lava rock) estimate. All of these hours have been on a mish-mashed soup of different tape brands. I am not concerned with the heads on my el-cheapo camera so much but am wondering if it would be bad to take a master tape from my DVX, run it through 'el-cheapo' to capture, then put it back into my DVX to shoot the rest of the tape. Could something happen like some cement like compound from using a conglomeration of tapes on 'el-cheapo' be transferred via the master tape into the heads of my DVX? If I can safely use my old camcorder I will gladly return this one I just bought at walmart for $216. Also, I have a panasonic head cleaner that I could run through 'el-cheapo' (a 5 year old panasonic pv-dv 92). As always thanks-a-mil for your tender loving care guys and gals.
