Old avi's captured in Vegas - Need 24p in FCP

Hey all.

I am needing to re-edit footage I filmed back in 2004. This was back when I used Vegas, and the files I have are .avi's from a DVX at 24p advanced. I know I will need to convert them to .mov's for smooth editing. My question is, FCP is only recognizing the files as 29.97. Is it possible to remove the pulldown from the file and get a true 24p .mov?

I do have the original tapes, but wanted to check what my options are before recapturing everything. Thanks!

Thank you for the response.

If you are suggesting compressor can remove the pulldown, can you give brief instructions on how this is done (what setting to use, etc...).? Compressor (and other programs, such as Mpeg Streamclip) recognize the avi files as 29.97. Simply converting to a .mov isn't helping, and using the frame rate conversion setting in compressor doesn't seem right...I know that I filmed 24p advanced and edited on a 24p timeline in Vegas when editing the same footage years ago.

In Compressor apply a ProRes 422 preset. In the Inspector, Frame Controls, etc. Lots of variables to convert NTSC 29.97 footage to 24p.
"Apple Pro Training Series: Compressor 3.5", $30.22 on amazon.

The DVX100 did two things. 24p, and 24pA. 24p is 60i with the 24p "effect" applied to it. 24pA had Advanced Pulldown applied, flagging the original 24p frames, but because it was being written to NTSC standards, had to be wrapped in a 60i data stream. FCP and others can remove the Advanced Pulldown (extra frames) and give you the original, true 24p footage.

So you do have 29.97 footage, you just need to remove the pulldown.

Some others here may have details the want to post, but I always recommend the Compressor 3.5 book to any FCP user. Very valuable to have.
