oktava questions

So I too am thinking about getting an oktava mk012a, but I have a few questions. The big question is: how far away does the mic typically have to be to get a good recording? I realize that it's not a shotgun, but is the hypercardioid pattern good enough to get a clean recording from 4-6 feet away? Or does it need to be closer?

Also, what size BBG does it need? 20mm? 22mm?

And lastly what would be a recommendation for a good but yet inexpensive boompole? I've been looking at the k-teks, specifically the coiled cable ones. Anyone have experience with these? Does anyone have any other suggestions?
