Oktava Mk12 with BBG mounting problem

Question for all the Audio Guru,

I have a Canon XHA1 and the thing is that I'll like to mount my Oktava Mk12 with a BBG and windjammer on it.

The few mic holder i have are all too short . After fitting the Oktava with the BBG, there is not much room left. I tried it on the Rycote sofie holder, and also a rode SM5. It is just to short. Is there other mic holder out there that I can use with the Oktava with a BBG and wind jammer and mount it on my camera.

I treid to put it direct on the XHA1 mic holder, by the on board mic gets in the way of the BBG.

I was thinking about getting a Ktech part here:

and buying a SM20 and putting them together.

Has any one tried it? Or what are you guys using to mount it?

If you follow the threads pertaining to this much praised little mic, you'll find that the kssm has been universally hailed as "the" shockmount of choice. Without question, a shockmount such as this will isolate the mic from the camera body much more effectively than the stock mic holder.

Thank guys,

I've tried the ktek ksm. very impressed by it, but It takes care when you need to take the mic in and out of of.

I got two mics that I'm currently using. one 22cm (NTG2) in diameter and one 20cm (Oktava) in diameter.

I can't afford to get two ktek kssm of two different sizes, What are my options?

In my previous use of it with an NTG2 it's been fine as far as I'm concerned. Would there be a difference in performance between the two mics?

I have used an SM3 and the one that Horse suggests with my Oktava MK-012... they both work well but the one that horse suggests is much stronger and the fear of the Oktava flying off is non-existent.

I suggest spending some cash here man... don't kid yourself, this is a BIG factor... operating your mic is just as important as having a decent one and much more important than having a great one. Besides a good shock mount will grow with you and last you a life time.

I personally suggest going all out and getting a K-Zep!
I scored mine for $300!!!! I haven't looked but back then it was a DEAL and these things don't get cheaper with time other than when companies like K-Tek come out with such a great product like the K-Zep and set the price at about 1/3 of the equivalent from Rycote. Oh! and it comes with the step up from the K-Tek mount that Horse suggested which is much better yet!

Now Rycote might be a tad better... but it is by no means worth any more than $100 more than the K-Zep... I may take some heat here from people with thousands invested into the industry standard Rycote, and to them it might still be the only way to go... but these are people with tenths of thousands invested into nothing but their audio bag... they not only diserve it :) but need every little bit of ounce of help they can get cause a lot more is demanded of them...

for someone using an Oktava MK-012 like yours truly... well lets just say that the K-Tek is not as INMENSE of a bargain as the quality you will get for each dolar you invested into that Hypercardioid, but it is good enough to put it in the same realm of UBER deals... heheh...

yup, I L-O-V-E my K-Zep and Bello Nero? :D

BTW, that mount you found from Oktava seems to be something you'd use to suspend the mic for acoustical guitar recordings in a studio or for other instruments/vocals in a studio.... probably not something you want your boom op flinging around...

This is the mount that the MEDIUM K-Zep comes with: $155

And here is a link to the MEDIUM K-Zep: $367

Oh! And BTW I also owned the NTG-1 which is the same as the NTG-2 only it doesn't let you open it up to use AA batteries in it. The Oktava is the only one that would be a problem, but not a problem that will prevent you from using any of the three mounts I used and mentioned... it will be juuuust long enough to fit, but that's all you need so really there isn't a problem.

the SM3 does not work well with the BBG. I always worry that the mic is going to fall out of the SM3. There is no way the mic can come out of the K-Tek KSSM on it's own. I wouldn't worry about changing mics, I do it all the time. Just hold the bands while you take the mic in and out and have an extra set on hand. This thing is a priceless addition to your kit. Much more important than people give it credit for ESPECIALLY with the Oktava!

Yea, the SM3 will defenitely have you worrying about your movements and you just can't have that when you are operating, you need to be able to make confident and determined moves and the SM3 will not let you do that. The microphone CAN come off it and even if it doesn't it will make noise well before it comes off.

It is only good for interviews and such where the microphone is stationary or practically stationary booming... don't limit yourself like that if you can afford a better shock-mount.
