Oktava MK012A?

If you looked around the Sound Room website you can see that there is a discount if you go to thier Facebook page. When you do there is a very prominent wording indicating that on all orders if you use the code FB you get 10% off all orders.

There appears to be a couple of companies that are named the Sound Room. Make certain you have the right one.

By the way, they are very nice people, buy from them and support small businesses that are run by nice people.

Not incredible. I have used the card. for dialog but you will pick up more room so it depends on what the shoot is. If you can get close then it's not a big problem. You can get the capsule on it's own so if you have the cardioid then you could just buy the hyper cap. for not all that much.

Listened to some shootouts with the Oktava MK012, both hyper and cardioid. I was curious what you all thought about it on a boom-- the shootout picked up a LOT of handling noise.

Is there another microphone kit similar to the Oktava that has the capsules for a hypercardioid and a cardioid that you've found to be slightly better, but not tooo much more expensive? If I get capsules then I'm getting more than one mic essentially. Priced around $300, that makes the Oktava a good bet for my budget.

Thoughts?

(considering what i've dug up on the forums, and read elsewhere, the oktava does seem epic. anyone know of a shootout or some recordings of matched pairs?)

Due to the handling noise issue, the Oktava must have a first class shock mount, such as KTek KSSM. A graphite boom pole might help too. WIth the shockmount you are good to go. Next best mic with changeable capsules is more like $600 (SE300/CK93).
