hi,

I've just bought a Oktava mk012, i know i should of bought the hypercardiod cap but it did not come with one.
Ive got the microphone with the cardiod capsule. Is there going to much difference between the two microphones?? Or DO i need the hyper capsule?

Any advice appreciated

Thank you

For booming dialog the hyper is definitely preferred over the cardioid. Break out ye olde Visa card again :)

Steve is correct, but depending on the project you could be OK. I have recorded dialog with a cardioid. It's not the sound that is the problem but the rejection, or rather lack of rejection. But if you can get close and the room isn't to live it can work fine. If you have two actors (and the above conditions) it can actually work better since you get a bigger pick up pattern.

Anyway you will probably want to get the hyper. Go to The Sound Room, they are around $30 I think and you get 5% off as a DVXUser member (I think you have to write them and get a code first).

Hmm, tells you how recently I looked on the site! Prices do have a tendency to climb (When I bought my Hyper from them (body and capsule) it was $170...

OK so $78 -5% = $74.10, not insignificant but also not that pricey.

It looks like the mic with all 3 capsules is only a $100 more than just the hyper. Sounds like a great deal for 3 mics basically. If you guys tend to use this mic indoors, is the baby ball gag necessary? Can you get away with just using the cheapo windscreen?

Yes, I thought the capsules would of been 'cheap' to. As it was, I paid 131 for the microphone with the cardiod capsule. I hadnt realised which capsule it came with.
To get all three capsules it was only 176 ;-(
