Oktava MK012 or Rode NTG-2?

I'm at the point of picking up new gear and specifically want an interior mic for boom work (around the $AU1K or under...the math on currency conversion would probably put that at about $US600 after boggling import tax, etc). I've read a lot of what the recommendations are and the Oktava seems like a good choice in the price range, but I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Rode NTG-2? Being an AU company, I can't pass up the option of looking at it....do they compare at all for interior work?

Any advice is greatly appreicated :)

Its a shotgun, and its not a very high range/price shotgun either, so the Oktava will prob kill it indoors most times.

But the Ntg2 will be better than the Oktava outdoors most times.

So thats the tradeoff.

Thanks for the reply timapter.

I know it's a shotgun, but Rode have stated that it has very good adaption for interior work. Price point for audio generally points at ability, but I was wondering if anyone had used one for interior work.

The rode sounds good but for interiors it wont sound as good as the Oktava. I don't care what shotgun you take and how well someone says it works with interiors, a hyper cardiod will always sound better.

We should post a sticky that says XYZ Shotgun vs. Oktava. All the thread will say is 'yes, the Oktava sounds better with interiors' People can log in and post questions and all the replies will read, yes, the Oktava sounds better.

Yup, yankee=eloquent. :)

if you're looking for interior boom work, dont even think about this: trust me, ive been where you are, just get the oktava (soundroom from paul, he's brilliant), make sure you get the hyper cardioid condensor, but you can also get the 3 cap set if you want the mic to do other stuff too, and if its in stock, grab the bella nero: it just looks cool.

And then, lastly, grab a rycote bbg, and some kind of suspension. The mic is 19/20mm diameter (right guys?)

woohoo! memory dont fail me now!

(heres a cool thing: the oktava has the same diameter as the 416. if you get a rycote (or any other) suspension system for that diameter, you can use the same suspension for the two mics (though not at the same time ;) )

Cool, thanks for all the advice guys :) The Oktava is the definite choice.

timapter, sound room looks sweet but I may have to try a little closer to home first.

I have to second Timapter's sentiments. I've got the Oktave, the BBG and a KSSM mount, and they work lovely together.

i live in SOUTH AFRICA, and they shipped no probem. Australia should be no sweat at all! Go for it! (either in oz, or sound room)
