Oktava MK-012 question

Hey all,

Let me preface this by saying I'm an audio newbie, but I really care.
I just got an Okatava MK-012 after reading all the good things about it on this forum.
I have a hyper cap on it. I want to use it mounted on a boom pole. I have an Audio Technica 8415 shockmount. Haven't bought the boom yet.
Also would like to use it right on the DVX for some documentary stuff once in a while.
But MAN! When I put it on the camera, I can't even touch the DVX without alot of rumble. The mic is so sensitive. Any ideas? Suppose I could try to put the shock mount on the DVX.

Also, when I put this set up on a boom pole, with my shock mount, will I still get that rumble? Should I try going through a mixer and roll off the lows a bit. Carrying a mixer around will be kind of hard for doc stuff.

Markertek has these inexpensive wind socks. Any opinions?

I may use the mic outdoors. Yikes.
Any advice would be great. Thanks

The shockmount on the DVX is garbage, and the Oktava is really sensitive, so you are going to get a lot of rumble and feedback if you use it camera mounted. The Ktech shockmount normally comes pretty highly recommended as long as you get the softband type.

From my Oktava experience I would go the boom route though. If you contact Rush @ EVS he has a great selection of boom poles running from $100-$350. If you run a search for Oktava you will find a ton of stuff on the shockmount.

Regarding the wind shields, look three posts down and look at the 'everything I know about mics so far' thread. We discussed wind protection for that mic earlier tonight.
