i just recieved my Mk-012-01 (film version).. it came in a chap plastic case..
is it normal? I though it was supposed to come in a nice wood case?
I am scared it might be a fake.
Any way i can tell from the mic desing?

I'm pretty sure the plastic cases come from Oktava. The Sound Room are the guys that supply them in a cedar box.

Oktava Canada, based in Calgary are a reputable dealer. When I purchased a set over a year ago they were the only authorized dealer in the country.
When you order the basic MK012 package you get a plastic box.
The wooden jeweler's box are for the multiple sets....they aren't that great and the seams fall apart.
What counts are the quality of the mics. You should have received a response chart from the factory.

Thanks guys, I feel better now. When you say response chart, you mean the paper document all in Russian? On page 15 there is a hand writen serial that match the one on the mic, adate stamp and a signature. That can be faked too but I think its the real thing. And the service was quick! Email confirmation and fast shipping in the Arctic!

I've just bought an MK012 last week, here in France.
It's the full MK012 with three capsule and the -10db pad.
It come in a wooden box which is very pretty but don't seem very robust for the field,
and with three charts that seems to be drawn by hand. There is also the little booklet with hand signature, time stamp and all written in russian.
All this in a box sealed with a sticker with again signature and date by hand.
All this is crazy magic : it's better than unboxing an iPhone !

Yeah, a print out frequency response chart. I ordered 2 matched pairs of large diaphram and small hyper capsules and you can see the minor variances in the response chart which I can not hear.
They do a few things in Russia without the slick packaging we have come to expect in the west, but Oktava is an old company who have excellent quality control for their modest price tag. One of the few Russian companies that do it right.
I have 28 recording mics of various manufacture and I can say I am totally satisfied with the Oktava's.
I hope you like your purchase.
