Oktava as on cam mic ?

I'm looking to try one of these on my DVX-100 as a small low cost cam mic. Of course I would add the appropriate windscreen etc.. I know there are better mics out there, I'm currently running a 4073A on my 100A, I'm interested in how this mic works in this configuration with the hyper-cardiod capsule.

Any experiences with these as a camera mic? I'd love to hear your experiences and thoughts.

I've used it that way for a couple quick run-and-gun situations. It works fine as long as you're really close to your subject.

I do it all the time in run 'n gun and doc work, but as Horse said... if you expect to RELY on it for your total dialog then you gotta' be close. For me it's usually only for ambient and guide track while a wireless or boom is on ch.2

It beats the heck out of the built-in mic by so much that it's just silly. So if you ever, at any time, thought the built-in mic was good for ANYTHING... then you'll faint when you hear the improvements by simply using an Oktava on-cam.

I'm actually surprised to hear that. In a good way. :) I've only used my Oktava on a boom for one project. And from what I heard in the headphones, I wouldn't have dared try it on the camera. I'd have thought there'd be WAY too much handling and tape-transport noise. I know you guys aren't saying it's THE solution but it's cool that it's an option at least.

Thanks folks. 2nd question: Which Rycote windscreen are you using with this mic? The info from them and a few sites is unclear at best which windscreen to use for this application. If you can provide direct links or part numbers, that would be great.

Thanks again.
