Okay to capture 24p footage in FCP's regular DV NTSC setup?

Hi there,
I have a new DVX100a and FCP 5.0, and the FCP manual seems to say it's okay to have FCP in regular DV NTSC mode (at Easy Setup) for 24p shooting (that's regular 24p not Advanced). I tried capturing some clips this way and it seems to be working fine but I'm afraid to keep going if this isn't right. Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Paige

Thanks Scott!
Can I ask you then, should I export using QuickTime Movie or Compressor to make a DVD? If Compressor, do I choose a 23.98 rate? Are there other settings I should make sure I have to make sure I get the best quality?
utterly confused,
Paige

No stick with 29.97 for export. Read the FAQ at the head of this forum for details.

Hi Noah,
Thanks again. One more question?
I just realized my 24p tapes won't transfer on my 1-chip Canon ZR65, which I was going to use as a deck for CinemaSports while I'm out shooting with the DVX100a. (I get time code errors when I try to caputre on FCP withi the Canon.)
What are my options? Can I only use this camera? Or would a Sony camera work? Should I rent a deck? I only need it for one day, this Saturday...
Thanks again,
Paige

Canon ZR80 for Capture with 24P footage

I'm in the middle of a shoot (11 tapes into it). The first 7 tapes of 24P were captured to FCP 4.5 fine with my crappy Canon ZR80 (purchased explicitly for capture). Now I'm not getting timecode on these last four tapes. I'm able to get it if I wanted to capture from the DVX100a (not a chance). And I can get timecode with stuff recorded on the ZR80. Is there anything I can do to get my "deck" back? Should I try cleaning the heads? Having it serviced? Or should I just suck it up and buy an actual deck?

Eureka! Here's the skinny on capturing with the Canon ZR80

Eureka! Here's the skinny on capturing with the Canon ZR80

I think I figured out what's up with the Canon ZR80 capture issue--I don't think it can deal with timecode past 8 hours.

I've been setting my starting hour timecode to match our tape number (tape 4 would have bars from 03;59;30;00 to 04;00;00;00). I was able to capture tapes 1 through 7 without a problem. Tape 8, however, I was able to read the timecode from 07;59;30;00 to 07;59;59;28, then it zeroed out in FCP.

As a workaround, I'm limiting my TC to under 08;00;00;00, and everything seems fine--I can capture as usual. So much for being conscientious...
