Oh no! Look out Orlando!

The Capt is moving to "O Town"! Hide your women and children, and stay off the sidewalks... at least until I figure my way around town :)

They should be afraid... very afraid. It seems as though that town was built to intentionally get me lost. One way streets that don't go where you need to go, and there is I4 East and West, which actually goes North and South, not East and West like the name implies.

My parents live in Ocala, about an hour north of Orlando. Orlando is a pretty cool city from what I've heard, but I've never really been there other than the required visits to Disney World when I was a kid.

I don't really know Orlando, other than having worked a gig or two out there, going to Calico Jacks, stuff like that. So I'm not really sure where we'll go, but I'm looking for someplace close to 528 and I4. That would give us easy access to two of the roads we know, and put us half way between the wife's new job and Disney. We'll get season passes, and me and the boys will tear up the parks. I'm even thinking of getting a job for the mouse, just so that I can get us in free.

Metro West is also a candidate. From what we hear, that is a really nice place.

let me know when you get to O-Town. we should meet up.

plus if you're here in May, that's when I'm shooting my TimeFest movie, so if you wanna help with that

I'll be moving in around June, trying to let my kids finish out the school year. But yeah, I would like to meet up with all of you guys- and gals- and get something going. In particular, I want to get some live webcasting under way for my new website www.guitargarage.tv . You play guitar, right Tommy? But yeah, I would also like to work on some short material too.

I love Orlando! Went there for vacation three years in a row. Okay, I had no imagination, but I had a blast. Enjoy your new home when you move.

Cool to hear about your move, I will just be graduating in June. BTW- Just so you know, when you get here you will realize I-4 is one of the easiest and most carefree interstates in Florida, it is funny how it goes all four directions though.

Let me know when you get here, we can meet up or something.

Yeah Orlando is def not a bad place, you learn to love it. I guess it really just depends on where you are coming from. I've lived here for about a year, and 20 minutes away before that.

I seriously have my doubts about the big cities, but I'm sure I'll get along just fine.

And when I do get settled in, we'll all find a place to meet up. I know there is a coffee house, Austin's I think it was. I have heard some of you mention it, and I found it by accident the other day, as well as Fiddler's Green. Maybe I'll even be able to find them on purpose... maybe.

We'll be waiting for you, Quirk. :Drogar-Evil(DBG): Qhan has been waiting all these years for Quirk's return since he was abandoned on the Botany Bay... Revenge is a dish best served Qold...

Bwa ha ha!

Just kidding, of course. Welcome to O-Town! You'll find this a very safe and fun place to live- but just like any big town, you should know what's what.

I have lived in (or commuted to and from) Orlando for around 24 years. I now live in Winter Park, but have also lived in Kissimmee near attractions.

Winter Park is awesome- plus you'll be near Full Sail for networking with fellow film types. But the commute to parks area will be HELLACIOUS for your wife, especially coming home on I-4 if she is on regular office hours.

I have MANY friends in the film/theme park/music biz in Orlando. Many of the theme park folks live in metrowest area. Pricey though, unless you are renting.

Be careful looking at Kissimmee properties- there a few good neighborhoods, but there are some REALLY bad areas there.

ESPECIALLY avoid the 192/Orange Blossom Trail intersection, and especially the strip of Orange Blossom Trail between the FL MALL and I-4 (OBT, or "The Trail" as we call it). This is the main prostitution/drug road. DON'T EVEN THINK about a motel in this area.

And be careful driving near attractions- there are two types of drivers on S.R. 192 (kissimmee area): confused tourists, and REALLY aggressive rednecks in pickups ANGRY at bad tourist driving. Seriously- not kidding.

Good places to live: Winter park, Metrowest, Oviedo, Tuskawilla, Winter Springs (last three are pretty far from everything though). Altamonte Springs and Casselberry have nice sections, but rough parts too- and they are too far from attractions to be practical.

528/Curry Ford by Airport kinda rough these days.

I'd suggest an "Extended Stay" kinda place- or even a weekly hotel room suite near attractions until you get the lay of the land.

Look forward to tossin a few drams of Romulan Ale back at Fiddler's Green when you arrive. Cheers till then...

There ain't no way I'm moving back into a hotel with the family and critters. That much is certain. We were going to find a rental with the option to buy, and see how it goes there. If at the end of the year it's still ok, we might try to buy. If it sucks, we're moving out to the middle of nowhere and starting our own compound.
