Oh glorious Plasma!

So, I finally gave in to my basest desires and bought a new 50" Pioneer Plasma TV. Whoa nelly! 'Tis a thing of utter beauty... I just really wish I had an HVX now to relish in the whole HD experience... someday. I'm holding off watching any "home movie" stuff until my Horrorfest entry is completed... then I shall host a debut screening in my living room, uh, I mean home theater. Y'all are invited. I'm so stoked! Whoo!

This TV has what they call: Advanced PureCinema™, with 3:3 pulldown at 72 Hz to get more of a natural image when watching films. Like most here I imagine, I understand the pulldown concept and all that but does anyone know the significance of the "72 Hz" and how that relates to viewing programs that originated on film?

Now thats just mean. lol.

Anyway about 72hz - isn't that just the screen refresh rate? ie the faster it is the less flicker is noticeable? My current computer display has a 75hz display, and my dad's crt has a 100hz one.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be mean. You're right about the refresh rate. I was just wondering if 72 was some sort of magic number when it comes to filmic sensibilities.

*on a side note, there is NO WAY that cart was going 70 mph... not even half that speed.

Screw the speed..I'm more impressed by the accuracy...and the balls...and stupidity for that matter of the guy
