Offline RT- Recompress or Create Offline?

I have 130 hours of DV footage for a documentary that I have shot and while digitizing tape 100 my 1.3TB of hard drive space is already close to full. My editor decided for us to go full offline RT till the final cut for online, my question is how? I already have 100 hours of DV footage on my drives in full DV rez and according to my research I have found conflicting opinions of converting DV footage into offline RT. In previous projects, I had issues capturing directly into FCP in offline RT mode, perhaps because I was digitizing 24PA footage with pulldown removal.

Noak Kadner of 2pop.com suggested:
“I'd suggest capturing everything to full res with pulldown removal checked then using the media manager to create an offline version. Saves wear and tear on the tapes and also guarantees a match back to the 24p version.”

So to “create an offline version”, then I would need to use media manager to “recompress” all the footage into offline RT mode, right? Keep in mind, I want to recompress all my footage (dailies) into offline RT and have not even begun cutting in the sequence. So I’m a little uncertain about whether to check or uncheck “include master clips outside selection”, “delete unused media from duplicated items”, and “include affiliate clips outside selection”.

I was set to use Media Manager to “recompress” all my footage from DV to offline RT when I read peterb’s guide to offline RT: http://www.tgr.com/weblog/archives/000003.html

“When all the media you think you'll use is logged, go ahead and batch capture them using the DV-NTSC -> Offline RT/Photo JPEG mode. Note: don't capture them in DV-NTSC and recompress later, as this can lead to aspect ratio problems. If you must capture in DV-NTSC, use the Media Manager's "Create Offline" feature, not "recompress."

What are the aspect ratio problems he’s talking about? I know that offline RT has a different aspect ratio, but isn’t that easily fixed by control clicking in the timeline and selecting “remove attributes”. If I use the “create offline” feature, then won’t I need to batch capture all my footage from the DV tapes again? I’m leaning towards Noah’s advice as I already have 100 hours of footage in full rez and recompressing would be quicker.

Any advice most appreciated.

Thanks,
Alexander
