Ok,
I need some serious advice. I'm shooting a doc and I've passed the 200 hour mark and just finished logging all of it, mostly by entire tapes that I'll then label into subclips. I've never tried doing the Offline RT thing but it seems like my only option even with a 1 terabyte drive. I wonder if it's possible to go ahead and get some of it in full res and the rest in the lower, or does it all have to be the "offline res" until I'm done? Does anyone have experience working this way, and any tips for me? It's just that I want to capture some of the really good parts in full res as back ups that I can also output some of, but I don't know if that will complicate things too much. The producer is real antsy about seeing some of it and such but I want to save the tapes from too much wear and just get the stuff off of it so I can store the priceless stuff. Also is anything different about doing this because it's been shot in 24P adv or should it go the same as any other video footage captured in offline res (like should I still edit in a 24fps timeline after capturing in 29.97 as the sticky indicates? Any advice would be appreciated, I'm nervous about beggining the capture since it'll take a few weeks and I don't want to screw it up and have to re-run the tapes through. Oh yeah, and how will I be able to output rough edits to watch if it's not really dv that can be seen as dv. I have to give alot of it to a translator on tape so I need an output option.
Help!
