offline hdv60i to online prores 422 24p

I have about 300 minutes of footage that I shot and will be editing that down to about 10 minutes.

I've imported the footage that was shot on the HV20 at hdv60i. I converted the first 60 minutes to Prores 422 24p ... it looks great and that is what I want my final format to be.

The prores footage looks and edits well but I don't have enough HD space to convert the whole 300 minutes... is it possible to offline in HDV60i and then online it in Prores?

I know it seems weird calling an HD format an offline but just wondering if anyone else had the same problem with prores and HD space and maybe figured out a workaround.

NO need to recapture. Just change the Render Settings (in the Sequence Settings, RENDER tab), to ProRes. Then when you render, you will be rendering as ProRes.

NO need to mess with recapturing footage.

I know I don't need to recapture, let me restate the question... can I edit in HDV 60i and then after the edit is done... uprez the footage to prores 422 24p, that way I only have to convert 10 minutes rather than 300 minutes of hdv footage to prores.

There is no uprez. NO need to media manage to ProRes or use Compressor to get you to ProRes. As I said, simply change your RENDER SETTINGS in the RENDER CONTROL tab of the SEQUENCE SETTINGS, and when you render, you will be in ProRes. THis way only what you have in the sequence will be ProRes.

OK OK I see now... but will rendering it out like that also convert my 60i footage to 24p footage like the reverse telecine function does in compressor?

no, 60i to 24p conversion has nothing to do with ProRes. if you need to reverse telecine, do so at the end with compressor.

Let me summarize :

1. drop 60i HDV footage on 60i prores 422 timelime, render and edit as normal.
2. apply reverse telecine for pulldown removal after your edit is finished.

* I'm thinking that the reverse telecine would have to be applied to the clips individually. If that was the case you would have to alternate each edit on separate video tracks and not use any fades.

After the rough cut was done then reverse telecine each clip and replace each clip on a 24p timeline.

you could do that.... I'm fairly sure that Compressor analyzes frame by frame to watch for changes in the cadence, so you could do it altogether on the final output. However, doing each shot individually will make it less likely that something will go wrong (and more likely that you'd catch it if it did).
