Offical on Camera Light & Accessories LED /Non-LED

Yes, would say the housing, connectors and attachments, although neat and tidy make it LOOK cheaper, sort of homemade and less "professional" compared with the Litepanels...

I must admit that "looking professional" was NOT on the list of criteria we had set out to meet when we designed our lights.

I appreciate the comment though; it's all good feedback....and it prompted me to go outside on a crappy day, and shoot a little clip for ya. (Hey, I never miss a good opportunity to whip out the DVX! ;-)

Here's a 2MB, 1 minute, H264 mov file, that may put to rest your "concerns" about our unit being "cheap". Try that with your other lights...on second thought, maybe NOT! :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Got mine Today

Got mine Today

I got my light today. First off the guys at VidLED great, very helpful and made sure I had light in hand for my shoot tomorrow. The light exceeded my expectations. I often use a litepanel and this is very comparable. It may not look as professional, but the results are impressive. I am very happy with it.

I thought I was the only one who did that with my VIDLED! I feel better now.

Once a day is good enough, preferably before meals.

Actually it sucks, bite the bullet and get the real deal. The lite panel battery is far superior to the DV thing. The DV attachment is flimsy an balances horribly. The standard battery is worth every penny. If you can save $635, then save $365 more and get the full kit, you won't regret it. It's probably been the most versitile light in my kit since summer when I got it. I want to pick up a two light kit one spot and another flood.
What kit are you talking about please?

What an awesome clip... Now that is professional. I'll be buying one of the vidlights after a few credit cards are paid off..

The guys seem really nice and I can't see a reason to pay 3x the price for the litepanel... and doesn't look "My" kind of homemade... I'd have duck tape, glue and all kinds of mis-behaving hardware...

Did you put that clip up on your site? Funny and a great demo....

Holy cats that's a tough little bugger! I gave a lot of thought to picking up one of these lights not too long ago, but since they were not available at the time I picked up the Litepanels flood instead. I also grabbed a belt battery and 4pin XLR power adapter to run it. It runs forever.

Originally I bought the spot thinking it would be more efficient (brighter) but what I noticed was some chroma shift in the beam it cast (more to the point, a blueish ring around the edge of the beam). With major diffusion it evened out, but the flood seemed to be the better option to avoid the color temperature issues you get with LED lights.

This is Tom from VariZoom. I wanted to get a couple of announcements out before we head to NAB. We have a new LED light system for the HVX and DVX. It is an incredibly bright light that also has a dimmer control.

This is a new product we will introduce at NAB and begin sales in mid May.

This is a great little 4-LED light that allows you to use your extra HVX or DVX batteries to power. The battery mount clamps right on to the top handle of your HVX / DVX camera. We will also have units available for Sony and Canon as well.

Those visiting NAB please come by try it out. You will be amazed with the performance and the price.

Very interested!! What will the price point be? Cheaper then a Litepanel, I hope. I wanted to get a Litepanel DV before their April rebate is over...but I'll hold out for this if it's comparitively priced.

Also, where is the diffuser - built in or snap-on?

It is $399. for the introduction and may move up to $449.-$499.

Diffuser flips down like an upper barn door.

I believe each LED is 3 watts.

Shipping in May.

yeah, nice one, throwing it against the wall and dunkin it in water.... but I'm sure they didn't make the LED bulbs themselves, LED lights are tough... I actually was looking at LED websites trying to figure out how to make one, after I read an article on the homemade LED camera lights.... that they can be powered for a couple of hours on a simple 9 volt battery... I'm dying to get one... if Vidled made made their lights look a little more presentable, painted it black and and figured out the battery situation, while keeping it the same price, they could put litepanel out of business..

Just to clarify a couple of things:
A major part of the reason why our lights are so tough is because of the housing, and the internal & external design features, which leads me to....

I'd be the first to admit that we concentrated on usefulness and function over beauty in the design phase! :) Maybe we'll make a BLACK housing in the future though....thanks for the feedback.

That simply couldn't be a very bright light, maybe 1W max, as a good 9V NiMH battery only has about 2.3Wh; not nearly sufficient to power a good quantity LEDs for several hours.

We now also offer the same LED light with an INTERNAL rechargeable battery pack; which works well. Lasts about 1 hour 30 minutes on one charge on FULL POWER.

That is neither our goal, intention, nor desire. And it won't happen.

But just for the fun of it, we did another one of our: lets-throw-a-vidled-against-a-wall videos. Here it is:

Next one will have better production values, I promise! :)

Hey Vid,

Forgive me, but the look does matter. I don't even like saying that but it's true. The appearance of my camera package and the way I arrive to a set is the first thing that a producer judges me on.

I like your lights, and because of their low cost I would buy two of them. However I would first need the housing to be black in order to use them. If the light was $10 more because of this feature, I would still pay it.

Please let me/us know if you ever produce a black model.

Also will you ever have a battery enclosed model of your brightest lights?

Jay

SO on the deluxe model with the internal battery.... IS it still possible to use one of your external batteries for longer run times and for when the internal batteries run out?

Looks sweet.. I'd opt for a Tie Die color.. Lol... People get so caught up in black don't they?

That is awesome! Anyone want to throw their lite panel around? Anyone up for that torture test? For the extra money.. it should be as indestructable right? I mean that chick must be chucking the vidLED like 40 feet in the air... and the truck tires... wow.

Anyone with the litepanels gonna come back with something as extreme?

Wow. You've got to be kidding me. If I saw you using on-camera lighting for studio work, I probably would fire you if the unit was black and brighter than the sun.

Even in studiowork on camera lights are used for eye-lights or fill ins, calm down bro...

BTW, I second that looks count, the only reason I imagine why the vidleds are beige/white is the case being non-custom made, right vidled?
Or are you going for the XL1/2 market hehehe...?
Looks like the housing can be taken appart, so maybe a lttle paint job will do the mojo...
Are you taking international orders?
