Odd Capture Behavior

Although I've been using Premiere for years, I just started using Vegas 8 on a limited experimental basis (I picked it up because of the deal), and I also just did a complete format and restore on my computer. Before the restore capturing worked fine but now all a capture produces is hundred of very small files with nothing in them. Is there a setting to change or something? I looked around but have had no luck. The camera is an XH-A1 by the way. Thanks

Welcome to the Vegas 8.x and Canon .m2t issues. Try using a seperate capture utility, capturing without scene detection or using Vegas 7.x to capture. There is a known bug and "rumor" is that it may be fixed in Vegas 8.0c. Something rewritten in the Vegas code between 7 and 8 really effed up capture and performance with Canon files. SD works fine though. HD is a bear in many cases.

Not much can be done at this point aside from what I recommended. I've actually gone back to 7.0d until 8 is more stable.

Personally, I've found that capture completely sucks with both Vegas 7 and 8, when it comes to SD. For whatever reason, my PC would capture beautifully with Vegas 6, but couldn't do it with 7, and I just found out tonight (how I found this thread) that 8 can't do it either now.

I'll have to call tech support (again) tomorrow, to see how I can get this resolved. It'll control the camera just fine for play, fast forward, pause, etc., via the firewire, but won't capture a single frame. Plays like it's recording, but the capture frames hold at zero.

When I got vegas I bought version version 6 and then the version 8 upgrade at the same time so I thought I would try it out on 6. The results in 6 are as bad. It sees the camera and allows me to push play on the screen, but it won't show any preview in the window, and then it freezes the whole program. I just find it odd that it all seemed to work quite well before I reintalled windows. Oh well, I guess I'll just capture with something else and wait for an update.
Norm, when you say it plays like it's recording but the capture frames hold at zero, do you end up with lots of empty files as well? Are you getting this problem with the A-1 as well, or a different camera?
