octava info

Seems like lots of people here get the ocatava 012 from sound room. it gets lotsa good press from forum member and octava majority share holder matt of st. louis. soundroom is the preferred vendor because they quality control their mics and more importantly, provide cute cedar boxes to store the mic. however matt suggests a shock mount from some other vendor, i'd like to point out that soundroom also provides a similar shockmount for the octava that's cheaper than the one matt recommends. a lot cheaper.

I can honestly tell you that I've never recommended ANY piece of gear that I haven't already bought myself.

I suggest OPTIONS of possibly good gear and suggest checking those options out... but when you see me say, "try this... it's good and you'll like it"... I only say that because I bought it, tested it, and I like it.

I have no experience with the shockmounts that sound-room sells, and while I'm sure you're joking about me pushing those Oktava mics as a share-holder... you also make the point that I don't have loyalty to anybody! Read my list that Jon asked for... it just lists the items I think are the best values from the places that have the best prices.

I just happen to think the little K-Tek KSSM is about the most versatile, well-thought-out little piece of gear in my bag. Size, shape, adjustability, and effective performance are the reasons I suggest that mount... it actually had nothing to do with the cost.

For the record I had a full-blown Rycote suspension system (with blimps) and I ALSO still use a Rycote Softie mount and softies... but you'll never hear me suggest the Rycote mount 'cause I think the K-Tek is better.

matt, do you own any of the octava foam wind screens?

p.s. now that oleg has been deported back to albania, and since tyre only posts links to his website and since his website is impossible to navigate, you are officially IT. The go to guy. the fireman. the guru. the man.

Nope... I'm "nobody".

I bought the WindTech screens that you see on sound-room for around $50 each... yeah I bought TWO of them in fact. I sold one of them to somebody on these boards for $25 and I still have the other one.

For $25? Yeah, they're okay... put it up against the Rycote BBG? Forget it... it's no where near as effective... probably good enough for indoors though.

BTW all these other guys like Ty and Oleg are pretty serious professionals... don't put to much stock in what I say just 'cause I can talk the talk. I think I know what I'm talking about and I think if you test my advice you'll think I know what I'm talking about... but that's about the end of it. I am just a guy.
