obscuring effect and controlling sketchHELP!

Hi guys i was just wondering how can i obscure an effect ( not neccessary asking for shortcuts) for example a light trail that goes around the person , dispappearing when its behind him and then re appearing when it passed him, this im asking regarding mainly a round, circle motion path...is there any easy way without having to mask the to-be-obscure portion?
For my second question, i wanna know if anybody can help me draw a smooth round motion path/sketch, i used the smoother but that only help me so much??

Never mind abt the motion sketch .. i got that ( forgot I could use the mask and paste it to the position of another layer :P )
