O' Brother where art thou?

I'm starting to plan for a music video shoot, that will probably be next spring. I'm wanting to get the look from the movie "O' Brother where art thou?" for the beginning and end of the video (doing sort of a spoof from scenes from the movie) and want that look. I have an HVX200 and will either be editing in Avid but more than likely FCP. Any suggestions?

also will be shooting 720p 24pn

thanks

and also haven't got my mac yet but it's ordered so I will be switching to FCP and I hope I won't regret...

a quik n durti in camera setting would be something in terms of...

lowering the master ped to say -4/5 maybe
taking the chroma level down a bit (desaturate)
warming up the color temp

again, this is quik n durti

I remember watching the commentary about how they specifically got alot of those looks but my memory fails me

That was one of the first films to use a DI, so a lot is in post.

They wanted the "dust bowl" look, but the locations they filmed in were very lush and green, so in the DI they timed out the green foliage and made it more tobacco brown. Roger Deakins, October 2k Issue of American Cinematographer.

That's what I'm lookin to do I think (mostly in post). What I got so far is greens: became mostly golds
blue: pale gray
and strong reds pretty much vanished
I have the DVD and seen how they did it which was pretty amazing hopefully I'll be able to pull something similar off. I guess what I really need to know is the best settings for the HVX to give me the ability to adjust in post after recording.

oh yes.... now I remember that...

as for the hvx... shoot with a quality polarizer, turn up the chroma level

those would be the two most obvious choices, after that its all tinkering around

hoofandmouf, thanks that's the info I was looking for, do you have any recomendations on the polarizer?

You can do that in-camera. We did a short some years ago and achieved the "brown grass look" using a LOT of ND filters (maybe NOT quite so "neutral"! ;-), a warm-black promist filter, and a slightly off-WB.

Check the MOV file out here.

Does anyone have a instuctional video on George Cloonies "on stage" dancing while they preform "man of constant sorrow"?

Well the lead singer of the band I'm makin the video for will probably give it a try, he's got the whole Clooney thing already down.
