NYC Casting Questions

I read the casting/auditions guide and it was very useful, but I have specific questions the relate to the NYC area. And the Cafe gets a lot of traffic so here goes....

First question:

Where have people held their auditions in NYC? I will most likely be holding the shoot in Queens, but would prefer to have the casting call in NYC as it will most likely draw more actors. I have a potential place for $10-$12 per hour, but I am looking to see if anyone knows of a place I could use this coming weekend for free. If not, I will go the $60-$72 route. But I am trying to save every penny of my budget for craft services (gotta keep the crew fed to keep em happy!) and rentals.

Second question:

I am going to post in Craig's List but I figured I'd ask here since people on this board have already held casting calls in NYC, and can possibly recommend actors they have worked with or have seen for my herofest short. There are only the two roles below.

The first role is the hero. He is your typical hero who is strong, but not so bright. The actory should have an all American look. Doesn't need to be cut, but should have a decent body. Someone who is physically imposing but not overweight would work.

The other role is the villain, of course. He is a sketchy guy who is funny and knows comedic timing. The actor should look like he could hold his own in a fight. Doesn't have to be built like a hero, but should look like he is in shape. Skinny is okay as long as they can look like a fighter.

Both parts have some dialogue and require the ability to take direction in a fight scene. Somone who has done martial arts would be great, but not required. I'd rather have someone who could portray the character and have to simplify the fight scene.

Thanks for any help!
Alex

Here are some more:

BackStage.com
BreakdownServices.com
ReelAct.com
SceneInteractive.com
NYCasting.com

If you put up your listing on all of them, prepare to be inundated with headshots. :)

I paid $25.00 for the craigslist ad. Is it normal to pay a fee to post a job? Do those places charge?
Thanks,
Alex

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of Craigslist.

As for the list I shared, I believe only BackStage.com charges.

Thanks Chris. I've gotten a mixed bag from Craigslist. Any advice on what to do and not do for the audition? I read the general guidlines in the director's section. Any horror stories?

As you said, everything you need to know is in the Director's section.

My favorite advice there is to make sure you film the audition. The camera will see things you don't.
