Hi everybody,

As I am constructing a new computer for Premiere, After Effects and other softwares. Dave Dugdale from "learning DSLR video" has a great setup, so I'll build something similar to that. Here the link: http://www.learningdslrvideo.com/new-editing-computer-build/

I have a hard time deciding between two graphic cards:

Nvidia GTX 780 or the Nvidia GTX 680 (4GB Version)

The Nvidia GTX 780 is slightly more expensive but it has 50% more Cuda Cores and it's newer (don't know if this is a disatvantage?!)

The Nvidia GTX 680 has 4GB (1GB more) and is a little less expensive. According do Dave some Colorists suggested that GPU

So which is the one to get, what do you think?

On the other side I'm seeking for a new Display and I don't really no what's great. I don't wanna spend a ton on that, but it must be something accurate.
If possible higher than Full HD. Size: 27" max. 30"

What about a Dell Ultra Sharp? Are they great?

I would really appreciate your suggestions and help.

Thank you and cheers

for the graphics cards i would recommend more cuda cores over more ram.

Think about when we went from single core to multi core processors. Its the same thing with a gpu each cuda core is like adding another thread that can be processed simultaneous. If you aren't editing anything huge (i.e. really high resolution) but just editing in 1080 then 3gb of vddr isn't going to slow you down much.

@treynolds: Thanks for the answer and the info about the Cuda! At the moment I'm not cutting higher than 1080p. But how in 2-3 years? 4K seems slowly to come in the game...

@mcgeedigital: I believe it is, but to expensive. The GTX 780 would really be the apex of my budget!

Cheers

I wouldn't bother paying for a high end card just to future proof yourself for 4K in a few years.
In a few years time there will be cheaper and better cards out there. Buy what is within your budget and will do the job now and then if you need to upgrade in a few years do it.

I'm using a GTX 660Ti OC in my Hackintosh and am extremely happy with the performance using CUDA in Premiere and After Effects CS6.
