Nvidia AI Graphics

This is going to change the game eventually.

I kind of dreamed up this idea that one day we would have cameras that capture raster data but also used lidar to capture distance and AI to separate it all. Basically creating vector 3D models that it then wraps the raster data around. Allowing us to essentially edit every element in our shot as if it's a scene made up of 3D objects. This would make keying very easy.

This Nvidia technology seems sort of like it's going down that route.

Another practical result will be massive improvements in video compression. It won't really be compression per se, it will be deconstruction and reconstruction. The resulting data will be resolution-less: able to be rendered at any desired resolution for playback. For commercial use, playback devices will have to become far more powerful, though that will happen fairly quickly.

For those who have studied DMT and the reports of visual effects on the human brain, Google's Dream AI provides some insight into what is going on: https://www.iflscience.com/technology/artificial-intelligence-dreams/

The dancing part is fairly scary, think what it could make anyone appear to be doing at any given time.

Also brings to the front the need for actors to license their appearance and voice, otherwise why pay them when you can grab a quick 3d sample and put them in a movie. Would save a lot of money if you didn't have to pay high level actors.

Oh great, now we have GPU accelerated deepfakes...

Hopefully it will be good enough to eventually fool our future AI overlords into living in a deepfake world they can conquer without enslaving us all.

:):)

Reminds me of one of the Simpson's Halloween episodes where an ad agency pays Homer to kill celebrities so they can then "CGI" them into ads and not have to pay them.

I've said this before as a I agree with Elon Musk... I'll say it again and gladly receive accusations of insanity :)

- If we, at one point, manage to invent technology in graphics that is indistinguishable from real life, it will ultimately lead to us discovering that we ourselves are in fact a simulation happening right now. That we are... highly advanced rendered objects.

I just hope, that the level of tech in that world means that we were inserted in this world as a copy of our own awareness or consiciousness. That the character we inhabit is a shell, that had it's mind ported into it from a VR setup in some random cafe. That when someone is done playing "me", that my character does not seize to exist but I simply take off my goggles and go "woah... w t f!"

If the simulation of reality is all you ever know, is it really reality or simulation?

Exactly :) Do we want to know? "The apple and Eve" - "ignorance is bliss".

Don't seek answers, it will corrupt you. But if you do, be prepared to live with the consequences and pain coming along with it. Hehe.

The weirdness of quantum physics seems to point in that direction. The best explanation for non local phenomenon like quantum entanglement seems to suggest that this reality is a 3D projection encoded on a 2D space, just like the way 3D graphics are a render based on information being computed from a 2D chip.

If that is the case, let's hope this reality/simulation is a really low tech early 90s style VR experience, and when we step out of it there are details and colors and mobility we could never imagine.

Even so, it's a lot like the free will doesn't exist argument. Even if it doesn't ultimately exist, we have to operate on the premise that it does. So if we are in a simulation, we have to operate on the premise we are not.

One cool thought, if this all is a simulation, maybe it's all been recorded. Maybe one day we'll find a way to access that recording and play back reality like we can play back a video recording. But in full 3D VR. Walking around the past like ghosts. Not able to change anything since it's just a recording, but still... the things we could learn about history, both amazing and terrifying.

If we are afraid of being mere representation of ourselves in the digital space, we always have one defense - turn off the screens! The real world will always exist as it has up to this point. These types of things only have weight if we choose to give it to them.

Well isnt that the point. At some point you have to ask if you are really the chicken. Maybe you are the egg... the more we learn the less obvious it becomes that this is "reality". If anything, digital age is making this more obvious... ironically.

Oh I can just see it now. Unofficial unrated cuts of films that feature pornographic scenes placed by video hackers that feature the actual characters/actors in the film.
