Number of setups/day

Just got back from a weekend shoot for a short film where we averaged about 18 shots per day, which seems like such a low number. A lot of factors can explain this - shorter winter days, smaller crew size, not enough planning, retakes etc, but I was curious about how many setups people average per day.

What has been your experience on the number of setups per day in a narrative setting? Highest/Lowest?

34 setups in 12 hours seems incredible. What kind of project was that, and what was the lighting situation?
... a super down and dirty indie short. Basically one light, one bounce, no stands, held by people. 15 minutes a shot, 2-3 takes max. No breaks, short finished in a day.
edit: but we did have a very well drawn storyboard so it was carefully planned.we even changed locations twice

20 sounds about right.

A lot of people claim to do more, but from my experience on a short film with an average crew if you are pushing more than that then you are making compromises.
