NTSC monitor problem. Won't play, only shows single frame

my monitor was working fine just a few days ago, but now when I hit spacebar I can't watch the footage in action. It's stuck on a frame unless I scrub it to another in which it still won't play.

anyone encountered this problem ever?

Thanks

Sounds like your video output preferences are wrong. Make sure your selection in the VIEW menu matches the format of the monitor (DV NTSC) and the timeline's frame rate (60i, 29.97, whatever). Also make sure, again in the VIEW menu, that it's selected to "show all frames".

everything seems A-OK. if I change the timeline settings to 29.97 (which we did NOT shoot in) it plays though, albeit skippy.

I've seen this problem disappear a few times after quitting and relaunching FCP. You might try that if you haven't already. You might also try creating a new FCP file that you are *sure* is set to all the correct parameters, then open the old project into it.

I'm not sure, but I think there may be a certain amount of bugginess in FCP where this issue is concerned.

well I just talked to a buddy of mine and he said he it has something to do with editing HD footage (which I neglected to mention in my original post). He said I could edit in SD then output to HD. This sounds a bit sketchy, but if I wanted to do it, any idea how I would accomplish this?

What are you doing? What format did you shoot? What format did you capture? What format are you editing? Edit SD and output HD? No...well, not in a manner that will look good. If you shot HD, you need to edit HD if you want an HD master. Or you can offline edit in a lower res codec, but then for the final output you'll need to recapture at full HD res and then output.

it also could be something to do with your sequence setting. there was once i set the sequence to animation instead of pal dv, I had have a resault as your: a monitor only showing single frame
