Yo!

The RODE NTG-2 is in a package for $249 at B&H with a SM3 Shockmount and a 1.5 foot right angled XLR cable.

Anyone have suggestions as to something comparable (in terms of price and performance) before I click on CHECKOUT? I'll be using it for short films and a documentary.

Thanks!

not to do the used car salesman thing...but...

we have three different boom packages with everything you need to get started. all are under a grand for a pole, mic, shock mount, fuzzy, and 25' xlr cable. basically they are the same, with the acception that the mic is different in each package.

For the price, it's hard to beat. They offer that deal every once in a while with various mics (B&H, that is).

Ok, I need to ask one more thing - I don't know why I didn't think of this. I did a search on the AT897, and read that it was a good compromise for shooting interior and exterior (also in package at BH for 30 bucks more than the Rode).

I have an AT3031 - should I use this for interiors, and the Rode for exteriors? Or just go with the AT897 for both?

I'm so out of it...

The 897 CAN work for interiors and it CAN work for exteriors, but it does neither exceptionally well. I would suggest the Rode over the 897 as I've never been a huge fan of that mic as you can tell by the review I wrote about it. At >$300 it is, well, it is a microphone.
