NTG-2 Question

I have a rode NTG-2.. I usually run it off internal power but I recently started using it with an EX-1 that can supply phantom. I removed the battery and use phantom power from the camera, but I'd like to know whether its safe to leave the battery in and use phantom at the same time. It will save me some hassle when I pair the mic with other recorders that dont supply phantom power.

I don't remember where I read it, but I remember from past research that one of the leading causes of damage to that mic is having phantom power applied with a battery inside.
