Hi Guys,

Need your advises and suggestions,

I rented my NTG2 out to a ENG soundman, it came back with a bit hiss and not very clean sound. (consistently, there is always a hiss or kind of noise as a background when I plug to a mixer or a camera) I have no experience of how to check inside of the tube, there is anyway to find out what 's with it.

I bought the NTG2 in singapore, but my local RODE suppliers refused to fix it because it's not bought from him.

If the problem is remained, I think I need another Shotgun to replace it, currently I am thinking of buying an another NTG2, however, after I watched the RODE university video, the presenter mentioned that the NTG 1 providing some quality sound as NTG2. My budget is around 300USD, because I think I still need to fix the NTG2 somehow, it also cost money.

any advise on how to fix the NTG2 or which shotgun should I buy.
I use the shotgun for ENG, news, documentary, interview, Voxpop stuff.

thanks

Hiro

Unfornuately, I ripped off the serial number long time ago, it's just a sticker on the bottom of the mic, after 4 years using it... I really don't think I could find the receipt or the shop. Even my new NTG2 which I bought last year, the serial number is gone, but luckily I still know who I bought it from.

The NTG-1 and NTG-2 are virtually identical, the difference being that the -2 has an internal battery for power for when phantom is unavailable while the -1 always requires external phantom power. IMHO, there are no cheaper shotguns worth buying - anything less being a waste of money.

When you register any RODE mic they keep a list of the serial numbers.

Hard to believe the renter could do damage to make it sound hissy. Ask him what and how he used it.

But he may have run the battery down so try powering your NTG-2 with a fresh battery and see if it sounds better .. or 48volts.

First record some speech so you've a got a 'hissy' reference.

Cheers.

Last night I disassembled my NTG-2 , without doing any changes, after I put everything in place, the sound is ok now. It has been broken for 2 weeks, now it's ok... dont know how to explain, tried record some ambience and speech, it's now alright.... will wait for it broke again, wish it WON'T.

Thanks very much guys!

Hiro
