Now I have one!!

  1. Today I got my brandnew HVX200. I am very excited and made the very first steps to learn how she is working. The standards are not so complicated – but....probably I am a little bit to excited. I copy the p2 card to my harddisc on a PC with EDIUS Broadcast. Every thing is fine. The harddisc shows a folder with the name CONTENT, in this folder are 6 other folders: Audio, Clip, icon, proxy, video and voice????? What for? And what was very surprising for me: The audio and the video file is separated and is in different folders, Not only this, any audiofile is two times there. OK I can try to put together in EDIUS, but what when I have 20 different clips! How shall I keep the overview?
Is it normal, or made I something wrong in the adjustments?

Unfortunately all those folders are normal...and needed.
I'm not sure with EDIUS, but you should simply be able to have the video folder open and drag the desired file to the timeline. The audio should come automatically with it.

I only used Edius once in a trial. We had to use Raylight to convert the MXF wrapper to AVIs for editing. The only thing I know of that imports (and converts) MXFs directly is FCP. (maybe Adobe, too?)

Go to the Capture menu, and choose the P2 Select item. The P2 Select utility will show you any mounted P2 volumes in the left pane, but if the P2 cards have already been copied to your computer, then you need to click on Add Folder to specify the path.

There is a separate pamphlet in the Edius 4 Broadcast box that has instructions on how to use P2 Select. Read it.

Go to p2 select in EDIUS, and go to add folder. Navigate up to the contents folder. Don't navigate into it. For example, if it was z:stuff/contents, you would navigate to z:stuff. Click ok, and you will see your clip thumbnails come up. Since they are already on your harddrive you can just do direct import. EDIUS will do the rest of the work for you. Your clips will show up in the bin, with all of the audio, metadata, etc, attached.

Also, in the future, you can just stick your p2 card in (if you have a pcmcia slot) and open p2 select, select the clips you want off the p2 card, and do copy and import. Down at the bottom of this window is the directory that the card contents will be copied to. YOu can set that to be whatever you want. Then just click ok. If you have v4.1 or later, you can start editing immediately from the p2 cards. When the transfer is complete, EDIUS will reconnect the clips to the location on the HDD.

HOpe that helps

Yes, that should be the way!

EDIUS BROADCAST is able to read and handle MFX files, but it cant be, that I have to synchronise AUDIO and VIDEO by hand on the timeline, because they separated in differenjt folders??? What is wrong?

You can drag and drop MXF files from the CONTENTS folder directly into the Edius bin or a sequence. I've never had to synchronize anything.

no, no. You don't have to synchronize anything. EDIUS handles all of that. Working with p2 is a breeze in EDIUS. The best way to bring it into your project is to do it through p2 select, rather than dragging stuff. But, to each his own. EDIUS will do the work for you. Just follow the directions laid out in these postings, read your documentation, and have a look at the EDIUS forum here. And have fun working with p2 the way it is meant to be :)

OK! thanks a lot. But I forgot the CD with "P2 select" in the shop of my dealer.
I will pick up them tomorrow and start again.

Another option is to go to the Canopus site, register, and download the V4.13 update. That includes an updated P2 Select utility with new features such as a background transfer mode.

The background transfer mode initially links the imported clips to their original location (the PCMCIA/PCCard slot or camera with USB2 connection), and when the files have been transferred from there to the current project's bin, Edius will update the link to point to the newly copied file. This allows you to start working with the clips almost immediately, and when the copy is complete, your project becomes independent of the files on the P2 card / in the camera.

Actually, P2 select is an option in Edius that is found under the "Capture" heading on the top menu bar on the main screen. It is an option within Edius :)

Yes, thats it. I have done the same as before and dragged the clips simple in the timeline as DV clips. Imported with P2 select I dont have to fiddle about with the audio files.
But the Buffer in Edius went down to 48 while playing clips in the timeline though I have adjust it to 96? Why?
Thanks Benn
