Now before I go broke...

So I still have FCP3. I have a DVX.
although I cant capture true24, footage can still be captured. Now is that footage thats captured the same quality? is there any difference at all when I'm looking at it from FCP3 screen and a FCPHD screen?

I will be getting HD soon, but for now... just wanna make sure that it looks the same.

Someone told me about telecined. I'm kinda low on vocabulary at this moment

WYSISWG.  If FCP can clone DVX footage, then you are getting the real deal straight from your camera.  Remember, that computer monitors will "see" the footage different than NTSC monitors, but the content is the same.

Re: Now before I go broke...

So if the content is the same. Will it print to tape or print out to DVD the same as well?
As for as capturing and putting it into timeline. youre saying I'm getting the real deal. thats great news.
So whats so special about this dvx plug in I hear of on later FCP progs?

Ability to do 24p in the edit time-line, allowing for "film look" work from an inexpensive camera and editor combo and no pull-down artifacts.

Re: Now before I go broke...

Wait -- you're confusing a few things. The DVX plugin is to fix the audio problem with 24P capturing. The old 100(noA) had audio off a frame or two. The new version doesn't have that problem... that I've found.

So, yes, FCP3 will capture the bits and bytes off the dv tape just like any other version of FCP3. DO NOT upgrade to HD just if you think it will give you better quality. It won't. It WILL give you a better suite of programs that will give you a better overall product. Plus, the interface has been worked over to the max. Only two things it's missing now is the fresh coffee and multicam editing.

Oh -- you said before: Print to Tape will look as good as the tape you put in. Print to DVD -- well, that's another chapter. DVD is a compression that will not look as good as the original tape. It will be close the better you are with compression settings... and HERE is where HD will help. A little program in there called Compressor.

Good luck,

Re: Now before I go broke...

Just shoot in f5 mode on the camera. It looks great, you just don't have to deal with pulldown removal and all that goes with it. You just edit directly at 29.97, just like usual. f6 mode, 24padvanced is a function that is essentially for filmmakers planning on having the end result go to film. If you don't plan on mastering the project on film, just shoot f5 and you'd never have to purchase another Final Cut version.
