Notification sign of filming

I tried searching but couldn't find this anywhere.

I'm looking for wording for a sign that we need to post when we shoot in a public location, that gives people walking by that we are shooting. It's like a blanket release. I checked Sonnyboo but couldn't find anything there, but I'm sure I've seen a something like this somewhere before.

Don't count on that to protect you from liability. People could be distracted and not see or read the sign. Or they could be illiterate and not be able to read the sign. They could be minors unable to enter into this kind of 'contract' on their own. Or they could be from another country and not speak or read the language. Putting up a thousand signs might not keep you from being sued by someone claiming they didn't give you permission to use their likeness in your film.
 
David, I understand your point, I just want to make EVERY effort to cover my bases. Unless I shoot on a soundstage, there's no guarantee of anything. I'm not sure about Free Use Laws, but I KNOW that I saw a blanket release somewhere.

This is for US use. I don't know how Canadian law varies from the US, and make no guarantee as to how bulletproof this language is, but to the extent that any sign will help protect you, this should do the job:



ATTENTION:

YOU ARE ENTERING AN AREA WHERE YOU MAY BE PHOTOGRAPHED FOR COMMERCIAL PURPOSES.

Today, (your company name) is shooting a (movie, documentary, commercial) at this location.

If you go beyond this point, you may be captured on film or video, and your image and likeness may be used in the film. By proceeding beyond this point, and in consideration of your having access to this facility on this day, YOU ARE CONSENTING TO THE USE OF YOUR IMAGE AND LIKENESS FOR COMMERCIAL PURPOSES IN CONNECTION WITH THE VIDEO BEING SHOT, and in any final version of the video or film, including, without limitation, commercial exhibition, sale, rental, resale, or other use or disposition of the content being produced.

By proceeding beyond this point, you are waving any rights of privacy and personality, and grant (your company name) the permanent and unrestricted use of any content shot containing your image and/or likeness.

IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THESE TERMS, PLEASE DO NOT PROCEED BEYOND THIS POINT.


Keep in mind that, as previously stated, if somebody creates a problem, it's unlikely that posting signs, even conspicuous ones, would be held to be an enforceable contract, but it will definitely serve as a "first line of defense".
