not white-balancing on white paper?

Riiiiiiight. The camera manufacturers have found a magical way to keep skin tones skin-tone even when the lighting is way the hell off the temperature settings.

"Personally, I try to avoid manually white balancing to a card because I like my shots to have natural skin tones and accurate colour"

You have to be kidding me :(.

Personally, I try to avoid manually focussing because I like my shots to have natural focal tones and accurate blurr.

oh, it's nothing against caitya, just the moron that wrote the article. You didn't write the article did you? :)
I mean don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with using the presets, I do it all the time, and adjust color in the camera, however, there are lots of times when I am working with lights that don't balance to 3200k or if I'm working outside, the sun is not always 5600k, what happens if your shooting in the shade, are you stuck with "blue" skin tones, becasue they sure as hell aren't going to be natural. There are many times when creatively using the white balance can give you great results, and the BS about not being able to get proper skin tones using the manual white balance is just that, BS. There have been many times when the only way to get proper skin tones is through a manual white balance, and if the author of that article knew how to properly do so, I would guess he wouldn't have written that article. God, he made it sound like you were going to break the camera if you white balanced too often :)

I mean, it's kind of like saying, when you shoot film, there is only tungsten and daylight, and you should never use a color correction filter, becuase the film has been balanced perfectly so that you will always get a perfect skin tone. BBBBBBBBSSSSSSSSSSSS :(

LMAO!!!!

Scharky! Take a deeeeep breath! Now put the name of that BS article writer on a punching bag, close your eyes, visualize your opponent, then strike with all you might. That should relieve some of the stress. After that, come back to the keyboard and let out the rest of the steam. I'm in a laughing mood today.

Yeah, maybe it's a little harsh, but I just think there are so many crap articles out there, so many people go on believing whatever they read on the internet. Don't believe me either, I'm on the internet :)

Ah!!! The dark side of the internet; where 85% of the content is just plain ol' crap! Feel the power of the dark side Luc! Join me in my quest to rule the world.

Sometimes it is hard to distinguish fact or fiction if you are not already up to speed on the subject being researched. It is not always black and white... and then, it depends on the temperature of the said white. hehehe!

But make sure not manually white balance it in you head because the blood might not be naturally red enough....
