Tesco, Britain’s largest retailer (~second/third largest, globally), has announced plans to move into film production; their current slate includes adaptations of popular books by Jackie Collins, Philip Pullman, Judy Blume, and others.

Thinking logically, it was only a matter of time before Tesco got into the movie production business. After all, you can already buy Tesco food, wear Tesco clothes, read Tesco magazines, talk on the Tesco phone network, heat your home with Tesco gas and electricity, bank with Tesco and go on a Tesco holiday, so the film industry does seem to be the only pie that the supermarket hasn't already jabbed some sort of appendage into.

Funnily enough, this was just one of the offhand predictions made about the company's bid for world domination in this clip from ‘Time Trumpet’, Armando Ianucci’s 2006 satirical ‘retrospective’ of the near future.

So, I guess it looks like everything is on track for Tesco’s Danish invasion in 2013!
