Not liking the look of HD?

does not liking the look of HD make me one of those people who believe that film will rule supreme forever maybe its the fact that i've never worked with a super expensive hdcam but i acknowledge that HD is here and know that it is probably the future for many years to come but i dont know for some reason i just prefer the look of standard definition dv over hd i'd just rather shoot with a dvx than an hvx i dont know does anybody else agree?

I think at SD - the dvx looks a bit softer than an HVX. Maybe its because when viewing at SD sizes that softness translates a little bit more to a film like feel.

When your viewing on a larger screen or projector, the HVX will have a similar feel.

EDIT: Want to add - I have two full 1080p Sony bravias here and I seriously prefer the look of 720 from my 500 on them. People seriously need to view their footage more on the primary output source of their footage and stop number crunching on pixels. The 500 at 720 on a 1080 panel looks seriously awesome. I think we get caught up on looking at footage on computer screens at rediculous resolutions that will bear 0 resemblance to how that footage appears on a consumer TV. Ive shot pieces on the 500 where I shot a bit dark (choice) and the noise on my monitors is clearly visible - but you take that to any TV, from CRT to 1080 LCD panel and it hardly exists if at all. Personally I think the most important camera factor is dynamic range.

I demoed the 3000 last week which is a full 1080 camera and I have to tell you, when you factor in all the engineering that makes up the image - IMO its every bit as good as RED, not taking into account one is 2/3" and one is 35. And when you factor in workflows etc - it exceeds.

Amen Noel.

Sometimes I get caught up in all this pixel counting too, but when I look at my camera's (Canon XH-A1 & HV20) footage on my HDTV it looks awesome. I'd rather wait awhile to replace what I have until something much more advanced comes out in the next year or two (RED/Scarlet, etc.).

I also don't notice much of a difference between 720 and 1080 when I'm watching TV, my footage, or Blu-ray. Hell, even up-converted DVD's look nearly HD depending on the film.

As for film vs. digital, I don't have the money to shoot film but I love the look of it. I'm hoping that film doesn't die off because of HD and digital cinematography.

Oh yeah - I forgot to say my main point - the DVX is a kick ass camera - best 1/3" 24p SD camera ever.
