Not a rant...The truth DAMNIT!!

So I'm shopping around for microphones for my now antique DVX100 and the choices seem to be the sen me-66 or the Audio technica AT 897 (any input on your experience with either would be helpful). But wait....That's not the point of the post. A huge percentage of places tell me I can't return the mic as it is against the health laws. These laws aparantly do not allow the return of merchandise that has come in contact with a persons mouth, ears, nose or....we all know the other parts. I am buying a shotgun mic...If it comes in contact with my mouth I'd think I set it up wrong. If you walk into any event that I've had the pleasure of setting up there can be any number of microphone of any variety on stage at any given time, for all you know they could have been rushed to the event from the convention of mad cows across town at the Hilton! These mic's are collected off the stands and podiums and crammed into their little bags without being cleansed of soaked in Barbisol or anything. Where's the health board now? One thing's for sure...If you can get sick from an SM58, I'm never gonna suck face with any of those loose girls I meet on the dance floor again!!

B&H will accept returns on everything for 7 days.

Now, for shooting "those" films. Get a good cardiod or omni that you can rig above the action and capture it all no matter how they move.

Check it out and see if it's true. I'm not sure if you can force a place to take anything back even if it isn't, but I personally love to catch people when they are trying to bullshit me. DO a little research and if it isn't true, you can call them up, ask about it, and when they hand you the line, tell them you work for the health department and you know for a fact that isn't true. Then see what they say. It might be fun.

Not entirely sure what "Those" films are? but I have an older EV mic that works wonders for dangling.

Anyone have a ballpark on price diff between at897 and 4073A? and best camera mount for them as I'm not sure the panny mount thing is stable enough.
