Hey. I encoded a movie via compressor recently, settings 'dvd best quality 120 mins, dolby digital professional 2.0' and it took about 24 hrs to encode. Is this normal?? The source footage comes in at 1:53 mins. There is color correction on every shot, lot's of cuts etc...By the way, after the file encoded it was way too big for the dvd, even though it said '120 mins'! :2vrolijk_08:

For the most part, no not really. Depending upon your system, how its resources are/were tied up, any problems it might be having, how the media is connected, etc., it could take that long, but for the most part it shouldn't. Recently did a 90 min export, w/ TC burn (always seems to slow down Compressor), and I think it took in the range of 4 hours.

As for it being to big, well if you chose the 90 min, 120 min, 150 min, etc presets and your piece is at that limit (give or take a couple of minutes), most people would drive the rate down a bit. Those are just estimates, so to deal with the slight/potential cushion of the file being bigger, you usually need to adjust it slightly.

cheers.
