Noobish question about Swirling GG - Brevis :)

Hi there!

Well a chap who was using our brevis adapter (and please forgive the noobish question to come) who was experimenting with it, said in some shots he tested the gg appeared (and naturally as the vibrator was on it was swirling.)

He asked why and er for all my brains i couldnt really tell him precisely why that happens.

I mean i shoot pretty much with the iris open (and a stop down on the SLR lens) using the ND to get rid of lotsa light.

Does the swirly gg become apparent if you either

1. Go to faster shutter speeds like 500 +
2. Close the aperture on the camera to F4 and smaller?

Or something else!!!

I have heard this mentioned on the forum and i did try to look for info first before reprising this question :)

Also Dennis i will get back to you about our mysterious m42 mount! muhaha

So then i guess (cos i haven't done too much interior lighting yet) that to ensure the glass does't pop up you really have to make sure enough light is thrown at it (if your already shooting at shutter speeds slower than 500.

What are the best ways to ensure you keep the gg from appearing? Cos in somewhat abstract ways i haven't had it appear, but er i'd rather know more academically how to ensure it doenst if i ever manage to compose and light a good looking shot haha

So perhaps *grovels* you could expand a little?

This topic is covered in the oscillation tuning guide at the Brevis owner's forum. Sounds like the shutter speed may have been very high. You should see zero grain, and no swirling at all if you follow the tuning guide :-)

Static, like the MovieTube (17k) don't swirl.

Spinning adapters (SGpro, M2) don't "swirl", but the same sort of effect happens, in a different way.

Argh for some reason i cant log into the private members forum whaaa :(

I don't have to shoot fast shutter speeds with the adapter but its just im wondering what ways i can ensure i prevent that from occuring in my own footage recordings :)

What i mean is it actually works but i dont shoot at 500+ but im just meaning in general what causes the swirly magic to become visible ;)

I'll fix my login for the site but in the meantime if anyone can tell me the things to avoid doing hehe

below shutter speed of 1/250 is fine. You can test it to see for your self. hook your camera to a big tv and just play with your shutter speed on your camera. You will be able to see what suit you fine. Read more on the manual when you get excess form dennis.
