Noob with exporting problems

Hey all,

I shot some footage to dv tape on my hvx:
Recording setup = 480i/24p
Camera setup = "squeeze"

I imported into fcp using NTSC DV 720x480 Anamorohic and the footage looks like it should, 16x9, in the timeline. The problem I am having is that when I "Export using Quicktime" I get a 4x3 'fat' QT file.

My sequence properties are shown in the photo below...

I have two questions about this:

#1. How can I export my project as a full res 16x9 QT file?

#2. How can I export the same project as a letterboxed 4x3 QT file?

Thanks in advance!

On this note, any advice about whether or not I should even be shooting with "squeeze" would be greatly appriciated!

16:9 native is actually 4:3 reinterpreted to look letterboxed by FCP. To export unsqueezed export at 863x480 or change the aperture setting in QuickTime player.

Thanks Noah!

I am not sure what you mean by "aperture setting" though...
Are you talking about exporting by selecting File > Export > Quicktime Movie? or do I need to use File > Export > Using Quicktime Conversion? Or something entirely different? Thanks again!

In Quicktime you can just go to movie properties, click on the video track, and adjust the frame size there. Then when you close QT it will ask you if you want to save the changes. Hit yes. Now that file will remember to playback with the widescreen frame size.

Noah where did you get 863 from out of curiousity? I always thought it was 854? To my understanding the math is:

480 x 16/9 = 853.333 which is rounded up often to 854. Also 16/9=1.778. 854/480=1.779. 864/480=1.80.

At least that's the way I thought it was. I just want to know if there is something I've over looked or am unaware of? Its not a huge difference, and I'm sure to most eyes, unnoticeable, but just curious if there is reasoning behind 864 at all.

cheers.
