Noob question(s)...help

1 OK, im new to video but i wanna try to shoot a film but when I import footage from my d7000 into adobe premiere its fine in the work screen (default middle viewer), but is zoomed in like 30% on the final screen (default viewer to the right) .

2 am i importing the footage wrong or something?

3 Also all my footage looks grainy in both viewers.... even with bright lights

4 Does premiere need a specific update... like the d7000 raw files for ps

Ill post examples, or links if im to vague. like i said im new to this and would just like some help. i looked at stickys and google but its kinda hard if i dont know the correct terms.

Thanks for any help i get.

A couple of quick questions... 1) What version of Premiere? 2) What is the resolution of the timeline, and is it the same as your video (it sounds like mismatched resolutions... an easy fix)?

cs5 and great an easy fix.... now only if i could find the resolution of my timeline.....

after playing around with the output viewer i was able to re-size the image to make it look like the source clip but it still isnt exact.

and the resolution of the source video is 1920x1080

Yeah, that's what I thought. It sounds like your resolution in your timeline is 1280x720. Click on the timeline your footage is in, then in the drop down menus at the top of the screen, click on sequence, then sequence settings. In the video area, it should tell you the resolution. If it's anything other than 1920x1080, there are two fixes. The first, if you want to keep your project at 720 (or whatever it is), is to right click your footage, then click on "scale to frame size". That will resize it down to 720. The other, since you can't change the timeline settings, is to just delete the timeline and create a new one. Click File>New>Sequence (or CTRL+N), and then choose the appropriate 1080p option under the DSLR section.

Now, as to the grainy footage... is it grainy, or pixelated?

Thanks and as far as the grainy (but id say pixelated, thats a good word for it) it looks like this: http://vimeo.com/18638786

(no offense to any1 it could be creative direction or any million of other reasons, i happened to be on the site and this video fits my description)

and not like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s00jmScOpZ8

(as far as this one even know that it was color corrected, edited, ect. i just fig good ole mike might add in a couple of pointers hint hint)

another reason i picked both of these vids is because they were both done with a d7000.

Hmmmm... if it looked pixelated like in the second one, I know the fix. But I can't help with the first. But maybe the fix for the second is the fix for the first... in both the timeline and clip monitor, in the corner you should see an icon for a drop down menu. It looks like a set of stacked lines with an inverted triangle. Click on it, and in the drop down menu you should see both 'playback resolution' and 'paused resolution'. Click on playback resolution, and if it says '1/2 resolution', click 'full' and see if that helps.

The default is 1/2 resolution in order to be less taxing on the system, especially with more highly compressed and/or larger resolutions. It has no effect on the actual files or the final product, it just makes it easier to play it back in real time while editing. If that isn't the fix, then I'm not sure I can help you with that one.
