Sorry to bother with what I'm sure is a noob question. I was wondering what do I need to do in Vegas to enable it to capture video as seperate segments instead of one long hour long video? I've searched the options but just cant find it.

Thanks in advance for any help that anyone could give me.

I don't know about vegas but that option is called dv start/stop detect something or other in fcp. In addition to that option fcp allows one to log and capture so you mark which in and out points for each clip you want batch captured to your hard drive.

In the Capture program, go into Options>Preferences>Capture; make sure Enable DV Scene Detection is checked.

Yep, I just looked and it is Checked under the options you specified. Any other ideas why when I capture video it doesnt split up the seperate scenes into seperate videos ?

Is it when you're capturing the original tape you shot on?

Yes, (if i understand your question correctly). I am capturing tape from my camera through a cable that sends the signal to my computer. Once Vegas is launched I click on the FILE tab, then the CAPTURE VIDEO option.

Vegas does some stuff, then goes to town and captures the video just fine. EXCEPT that it captures it as one long video, instead of splitting it up into seperate videos where I originally made cuts by pausing or shutting of my camera between takes.

Thanks again for your help David.

What I mean is, is this a tape full of stuff you shot in your camera, or is it a tape of stuff dubbed from something/somewhere else?

What camera are you using?

Its a tape full of stuff (bout an hour worth of video) that I shot over the last two days.

The camera is a DVX-100.
