(Noob Question) Automatic Audio Leveler?

I just shot a lecture and the audio varies throughout the clip. I am very new to FCPx and am wondering when I import the clips (P2), is there a way that it can make the audio more consistent? Is there any way to do it even if it's after export?

We work with a 7D and HPX-170, and our P2 hasn't had that problem. Trying to think of what could do that. Internal drive or FW drive? RAM? HHmm... I'm thinking...

edit: ^^^It's not a P2 problem, the lecture was probably recorded that way.

The "loudness" control appears to work like a poor man's compressor - "loudness" controls the ratio and "amount" controls the attack/release phases simultaneously. FCPX doesn't give you any more control over dynamic range compression, but even that little bit that might help. Depends on how the lecture was captured - if you recorded a feed direct from the PA/mixer you could probably easily fix it, but if you recorded the live audio in the lecture space, compression would probably make it even worse.

I actually had to change the camera levels a few times, and then the speaker was quiet and then the crowd was loud. All I am trying to do is to get the program to smooth out the waveform somewhat, and analyze the whole thing. Kinda like smoothcam for audio... Maybe adding limiters in logic and exporting to FCP?

Ah, you simply want to through a Compressor on the audio. I'd do this. Once the final edit is done, either put all nessicarry clips into a Compound Clip, or disconnect all.needed audio and put those into a Compound Clip. This creates a Bus just like a DAW would use. Then apply the Compressor from Logic that FCP X has. Adjust in tiny amounts. When it's leveled out, adjust the again of the Compressor if needed. Very easy.
