Monitors have come way down in price. You can a very decent 20" name brand like Viewsonic at any big box store for sub $400. I'd recommend DVI input, but you can get an adapter for about $20 that works as well.

I got dual NEC 22" [FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]LCDs (ASLCD223WXM-BK R) for $289 each from newegg, and use them on my g5 with great satisfaction.

i got a 19" widescreen viewsonic for like $200 even from buy.com or something like it. It came with dual adapters (VGA and DVI) so I have both my mac & PC plugged in and switch between the.

i would also recommend the samsungs, i have dual 19" 940BWs hooked up to my G5 and they look great. And I use one to switch back and forth to a PC.

note - occasionally they will not turn on with the computer because it's a mac, so you have to restart, the only way you can have guaranteed compatibility is with the apple monitors.

I use a pair of 19" NEC LCDs on the work G5. Never had any problems with them.
FWIW, they're connected over DVI

Hp Lp2465

Hp Lp2465

Maybe not super cheap but...

600 now plus rebate = 550 from macmall.

I have this plugged into my Mac laptop and it is very nice.

Better than Apple brand LCD's check the specs.

Samsung 24

Samsung 24

The Samsung 24 from CC is 500 after rebate and has 3000:1 contrast as opposed to the 1000:1 of the HP2465... rat farts!

Gateway's brand new 24in is supposedly real nice and has HDMI. A friend of mine found a coupon online and got one today at Best Buy for $480 I think.

If you're after a mid-range monitor, I'm currently using a 21" Samsung 215TW - it's a great piece of kit. And noticably higher quality than the low-end 22" models.
