Before I bought my very own DVX100b, I had the opportunity to borrow somebody's XL1 for a project. The case this guy had was really cool. It was basically a big metal box with a strong cardboard cut out of sorts in side, which you strapped the camera to, sitting right side up. I'm not really sure how else to describe this type of case, so hopefully that's clear enough.
I liked that case because the camera never touched anything other than on the bottom (which is ok), there was plenty of room below the raised cardboard cutout to store stuff, you could keep an external mic and other accessories hooked up to it instead of taking it off and on every time, and you could use the box as a platform/seat of sorts in a pinch.
Does anyone know where I can get this kind of case for my DVX? Or even what kind of case I'm trying to describe? I guess I'm just a little weary of buying the foam-type case, for the above reasons and also because I don't trust myself with cutting the foam.
